Crosby, Nichols named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Chris Crosby and Aidan Nichols have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for March 6-12.

Crosby, a sophomore pitcher from Harrison Central, struck out 10 in six innings of a 4-3 win over Marion Military. The right-hander allowed three runs on six hits, walking just one, to improve to 3-0.

Nichols, a freshman pitcher/outfielder from Brandon, won both her MACJC starts with an ERA of 1.14. She shut out No. 17 Pearl River by striking out three and allowing just four hits in a 2-0 win on the road. At No. 9 Itawamba, she pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out six and walking just one.

Kristen Sexton, a freshman from West Harrison who plays first base, batted .385 (5-for-13) in four games for No. 3 Gulf Coast. She went 3-for-5 in the MACJC opener at No. 17 Pearl River, a 2-0 Lady Bulldogs victory. In a 7-5 victory at No. 9 Itawamba, she went 2-for-3. Sexton is batting .466 on the season.

Tyler Evans, a sophomore first baseman from D'Iberville, batted .400 with a home run and three RBI in a pair of games. He had a solo homer in a 4-3 win in the opener against Marion Military, and went 1-for-2 in the nightcap.
