Werdann, Bratton named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Izzy Werdann and Beau Bratton have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for May 1-7.

 

Werdann, a sophomore catcher from Pensacola, batted .455 and had a pair of home runs at the MACJC Tournament. Her three-run homer in the sixth in the opener against Itawamba put Gulf Coast in front for good. It capped a four-RBI day. She also homered in her next at-bat the following day against Jones County. Werdann slugged 1.091 during the tournament.

 

Bratton, a freshman catcher/DH from St. Patrick in Biloxi, batted .462 (6-for-13 with two home runs and a pair of doubles as Mississippi Gulf Coast won two of three games he played in. His biggest game was a 4-for-5 performance against Northeast that saw him slug two home runs and a double in a 14-4 victory. He drove in three runs in that game and had hits in all four to extend his hitting streak to nine games.

Josh Lewis, a freshman left-hander from Theodore, Ala., allowed only one earned run in seven innings to pick up a 14-4 victory at Northeast. He allowed three runs on five hits, striking out four and walking one.

 

Aidan Nichols, a freshman right fielder/pitcher from Brandon, batted .545 (6-for-11) with two doubles in four MACJC Tournament games for Mississippi Gulf Coast. In an elimination game against Itawamba, she drove in the tying run with two outs in the seventh inning of a 3-2 victory in eight. She finished 3-for-4 with a double in that game. She also doubled against Jones County in a 4-2 loss in the championship round, had hits in all four games and had a .615 on-base percentage.
