Mills-Derouen, Murphy named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Dylan Mills-Derouen and Molly Murphy have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for April 24-30.

Mills-Derouen, a sophomore pitcher from Biloxi, had two complete-game victories for Mississippi Gulf Coast, allowing only one unearned run on six hits while striking out 15. He struck six in a five-inning 11-1 four-hitter against Southwest, then came back on three days rest to shut out East Mississippi 3-0. He struck out nine and allowed only two hits. Mills-Derouen leads the team with four complete games and three shutouts.

Murphy, a sophomore outfielder from Southaven, batted .800 in a pair of victories for No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast. She had two hits in each of the Lady Bulldogs' MACJC playoff wins over Northeast. Murphy also added a walk for a .857 OBP. She has a 12-game hitting streak during which she's batting .512.

Others nominated:

Nora Keehn, a sophomore from Thibodaux, La., scattered six hits in her 3-1 MACJC first-round playoff victory over Northeast. Keehn had four strikeouts and no walks.

Logan McGrew, a freshman catcher from Sumrall, batted .500 (5-for-10) while playing in three games for Mississippi Gulf Coast. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI in an 11-1 win over Southwest, then went 2-for-4 with a double in an 11-7 loss against East Mississippi. McGrew also had a double and RBI in a 3-0 win against the Lions.
