Wedgeworth, Buie named MACJC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Jackson Wedgeworth and Bianca Buie have been named MACJC Student-Athletes of the Week for Sept. 18-24.

Wedgeworth, a sophomore golfer from Soso, shot 10-under to win the first MACJC event of the season. He helped the No. 1 Bulldogs win the team title in Raymond by eight shots.

Buie, a sophomore from Baia Mare, Romania, teamed with Margarita Lopareva to win the ITA Regionals women's doubles championship in Meridian. She also advanced to the finals of the singles side.

Zach Farrar, a freshman wide receiver from Arlington, Texas, made his two catches count big in Mississippi Gulf Coast's 48-25 victory over East Central. He had 58- and 46-yard touchdown receptions during a 35-point third-quarter outburst.

R'Tarriun Johnson, a freshman defensive back from Stone High, had 11 total tackles and an interception in Mississippi Gulf Coast's 48-25 win over East Central. He had six solo tackles and also broke up another pass.

Mason Hunt, a freshman kicker from Stone High, was perfect in his place-kicking duties during Mississippi Gulf Coast's 48-25 win over East Central. He made all six extra points and both field goals, including a 40-yarder. He was called on to make pooch kickoffs and directional punts to limit a dangerous return game.
