
Beatty, Smith named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week
PERKINSTON — Curissa Beatty and Saivion Smith have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
Beatty, a freshman defender from Biloxi, scored a goal for Mississippi Gulf Coast during the Lady Bulldogs' 2-1 win at Hinds. It was the only MGCCC action of the week.
Smith, a sophomore defensive back from St. Petersburg, Fla., had an interception and a tackle for loss in Mississippi Gulf Coast's 28-21 loss at Hinds. Smith totaled three tackles and had a 22-yard return on his interception as well as 102 yards on four kickoff returns. He also had two receptions for 15 yards.

Deandre Torrey, a freshman running back from Gautier, ran 25 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns in Mississippi Gulf Coast's 28-21 loss at Hinds. He has topped 100 yards rushing in four of five games.
Max Johnson, a freshman midfielder from Rugby, England, had a goal and an assist in a pair of games for Mississippi Gulf Coast. He assisted on the game-tying goal in a 2-1 overtime win at Hinds and scored on a penalty kick in a 3-1 loss to Georgia Military after setting up a scoring opportunity off a free kick.
