Bryant, McGrew named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week
PERKINSTON — Savannah Bryant and Logan McGrew have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Feb. 5-11.
Bryant, a freshman from Long Beach, was one out from a no-hitter in Mississippi Gulf Coast's first game of the year against Baton Rouge. The two-run home run she allowed was the only blemish in an 8-strikeout, complete-game performance.
McGrew, a sophomore catcher/designated hitter from Sumrall, drove in five runs in a sweep of State Fair. In a 14-7 win, he went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run single and a sacrifice fly. He added two more RBI and another double in a 12-0 win in Game 2.
Also nominated:
Dedoch Chan, a freshman forward from Rochester, Minn., extended his streak of games scoring 20-plus points to six by averaging 23.5 points and 9.5 rebounds as Gulf Coast split two games. He had 25 points and 6 rebounds in a 97-88 loss at Co-Lin. Chan led a dominant performance in an 86-61 win over East Central with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
Dustan Dille, a freshman right-hander from Tuscaloosa, struck out four in four innings during a 12-0 win over State Fair. He allowed only two hits in contributing to the team's four-hit shutout.
Breannah McCullah, a freshman guard from Edwards, shot 56.2 percent from the field and 80 percent from the three-point win last week, averaging 12.0 points and 6.0 rebounds.
Madison Wall, a freshman outfielder from East Central, drove in three runs in a season-opening 6-2 win over Baton Rouge. She had a pair of singles in the game.
