
Lott, Hall named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week
PERKINSTON — Haley Lott and Jordan Hall have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Oct. 9-15.
Lott, a freshman from West Harrison, had two shutouts in must-win games. Playing only her second and third games since returning from an injury in preseason, she defeated Southwest 2-0 and Meridian 3-0.
Hall, a sophomore from Manchester, England, had three goals and six assists during a 2-0 week. He had a hand in all the goals in a 2-1 win over Southwest, scoring one and assisting on the other two. In an 8-3 victory over Meridian, he had two goals and four assists.
Also nominated:
Erin Longsden, a sophomore from Manchester, England, had two goals and an assist in two must-win games. She assisted on a goal in a 2-0 win over Southwest and scored twice in a 3-0 win against Meridian.
Deandre Torrey, a freshman running back from Gautier, ran 24 times for 183 yards (7.6 yards per rush) and scored once for No. 17 Gulf Coast in a 52-13 win over Southwest. Torrey has run for more than 100 yards in all but one game and leads the nation with 1,015 rushing yards. His 10 touchdowns are tied for fourth.
Daquan Newkirk, a freshman from Orlando, Fla., had five total tackles, including two for losses, and an interception against Southwest. Newkirk had four solo tackles and an assist.
Saivion Smith, a sophomore from St. Petersburg, Fla., returned a kickoff 92 yards to open the second half, sparking a 24-point third-quarter explosion in against Southwest.
