
Shepherd, Haynes named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week
PERKINSTON — Jess Shepherd and Deontae Haynes have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Oct. 23-29.
Jess Shepherd, a sophomore midfielder Manchester, England, had two goals and an assist for Gulf Coast in two MACJC playoff games. She had the game-winning goal in a 3-2 overtime victory over Itawamba in the quarterfinals. Shepherd had the Lady Bulldogs' goal in a 1-1 tie against Jones County in the semifinals.
Haynes, a sophomore from Oak Grove, had eight tackles and six assists in Gulf Coast's season-ending loss to Jones County.
Also nominated:
Deandre Torrey, a freshman running back from Gautier, ran 20 times for 167 yards and a touchdown against Jones County.
Haley Lott, a freshman from West Harrison, went 1-0-1 for Gulf Coast in a pair of MACJC playoff games. She stopped six shots in a 3-2 overtime win over Itawamba in the quarterfinals. Lott had eight saves in a 1-1 tie against Jones in the semifinals.
Jordan Hall, a sophomore from Manchester, England, had three goals and an assist in Mississippi Gulf Coast's 7-2 win over Itawamba in the MACJC semifinals.
