National champs named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — The members of the national champion Mississippi Gulf Coast golf team are the MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for May 21-27.

The Bulldogs' squad of Jackson Wedgeworth (So., West Jones/Soso), Brice Wilkinson (Fr. Madison Central/Madison), Carter Nicholson (Fr., Pearl River Central/Carriere), Colby Blake (So., Parklane/Tylertown) and Colby Entriken (So., Hancock/Pass Christian) finished 2-under at the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship to beat Meridian by one shot.

Wedgeworth finished 5-under in a tie for fourth, and Wilkinson was two shots back tied for sixth. Nicholson shot 3-under the final two days to help lead the Bulldogs' charge, and Blake's 70 on the final day helped Gulf Coast shoot 9-under in the fourth round. Entriken shot 73 on the first and last days.

All five Bulldog golfers made the NJCAA All-American team. Wedgeworth and Wilkinson were on the First Team, and Nicholson, Blake and Entriken were on the Third Team.

Wedgeworth, Wilkinson and Nicholson were named to the All-Tournament Team.
