MGCCC baseball, golf teams win MACJC academic awards

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's baseball and golf teams finished with the best GPAs in their respective sports to win MACJC Academic All-State Team honors for 2017-18.

 

Coach Rodney Batts' baseball team finished with a 3.51 GPA. The team made its first trip to regional play since 2012, finishing with a 36-16 record and a No. 18 ranking in the last preseason poll. They finished third in the Region 23 Tournament, losing to eventual national champion LSU-Eunice.

 

Coach Tommy Snell's golf team had a 3.49 GPA. The team won the school's first golf team national championship last month, beating Meridian by one shot in Foley, Ala.

 

The MGCCC Athletic Department's efforts in the classroom are overseen by Athletic Academic Advisor Julie Gallup.
