Dupree hauls in NJCAA award

PERKINSTON — A school record for touchdown catches in the opening game of the 2023 football season earned Mississippi Gulf Coast wide receiver Jay Dupree national honors Wednesday.

He picked up NJCAA Division I Offensive Player of the Week after his four-TD performance tied the school mark. The Bulldogs beat then-No. 3 Northwest Mississippi 49-14 at A.L. May Memorial Stadium.

The sophomore from Philadelphia, Miss., had six catches for 164 yards. He tied Javon Bell's 2010 mark of four touchdowns in a game set against Southwest Mississippi.

The Bulldogs entered the national rankings at No. 8 after the big win, and they'll put that on display Thursday when Itawamba visits A.L. May Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Tickets, including single-game chairbacks, are available at http://mgcccbulldogs.com/tickets. The game will be streamed at https://mgcccbulldogs.com/watch, and it will be broadcast on SuperTalk 103.1 FM.
