PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast moved up to No. 6 in the latest NJCAA football rankings, and they'll put their improved position on the line Saturday in a Homecoming clash against Hinds.
It's the MACCC South, which means nothing will come easy. The Eagles are 3-4 overall, but 3-1 in the division.
"They spread you all over the field," Gulf Coast coach Jack Wright said. "They distribute the ball evenly, run the ball well, throw the ball well. They haven't given up a lot of yards or points this year. It's a typical South opponent who can beat you a lot of different ways offensively, and they're tough to score on."

Gulf Coast has won 16 of the last 18 meetings between the teams and is 51-34-1 in the series. It's the 92nd Homecoming game at Perk, with the Bulldogs having a 57-34 record riding a four-game win streak in those games.
Hinds is one of only four Homecoming opponents to which Gulf Coast has a losing record. The Eagles are 6-10, and Gulf Coast's 45-24 win in 2018 broke a six-game losing streak.
The Hinds defense allows just 21.1 points per game and ranks fourth in the MACCC in passing defense (177.1 yards per game).
Gulf Coast is coming off a big rally on the road at East Central. The Bulldogs trailed by 10 in the third quarter before coming back to win 28-24.
"We kept fighting," Wright said. "Both sides of the football had some up and down moments in the first three quarters, but in the fourth quarter, none of that fazed us. We kept playing football, playing our game, trying to play at a high level, trying to play the next play. We preach that every day, and I think it paid off for us."
Linebacker Ghee Evans (Fr., Waynesboro/Wayne County) had three tackles in the game, increasing his season total to 18. He continues to turn the coaches' heads on and off the field.
"Greg is an extremely hard worker and a great young man," Wright said. "He's gotten better and better and better this year. He's making more plays on the field. I'm proud of what he's doing on the field. He deserves his success because of the work he's put in."
