Showalter wins NJCAA Player of the Week

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Gabriel Showalter grabbed another award Wednesday when the NJCAA named him the national Special Teams Player of the Week.

Gabriel Showalter, a sophomore kicker/punter from St. Martin, made all seven of his placement attempts in No. 6 Gulf Coast's 41-0 win over Hinds on Homecoming. He won the award in voting by the MACCC's sports information directors.

Showalter made both field goals and five extra points. Showalter has made all 43 extra points this year and leads the NJCAA in that category and kicking points.

On Saturday, he averaged 63.8 yards on kickoffs with one touchback and had 3-of-5 punts land inside the 20.

Showalter is the second Bulldog to receive an NJCAA award this season, joining wide receiver Jay Dupree.
