Lady Bulldogs alive in five brackets at state tourney

PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast has three singles players and two sets of doubles still alive after play Thursday in the women's brackets of the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament, being held this week at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.

 

The Lady Bulldogs are in fifth place in the team standings, with the top three advancing to the national championship. Singles champions will also qualify for that tourney.

 

No. 1 singles player Paulina Estrada, No. 2 singles player Jasmine Sartin, No. 4 singles player Lexi Johnson advanced to the semifinals with wins. Estrada and Karah Younger, at No. 1 doubles, and Johnson and Sartin at No. 2 doubles will play Friday, as well.

No. 6 singles: Meredith Lee (ICC) def. Abigail Smith (MGCCC), 7-5, 6-4

No. 1 doubles: Paulina Estrada/Karah Younger (MGCCC) def. Allie Furdge/Kaylan Cooper (Holmes), 6-2, 7-5

No. 2 doubles: Lexi Johnson/Jasmine Sartin (MGCCC) def. Jordyn Hull/Alden Hartley (MCC), 6-1, 6-1
