Estrada, Robinson headed to Small College Championships

Mississippi Gulf Coast will be going to the Small College Championships for the third straight year after it swept the women's singles and doubles at the ITA Regional Championships in Meridian.

Freshman Paulina Estrada won the singles title and teamed up with sophomore Katie Robinson to claim the doubles crown.

Lady Bulldogs also claimed the consolation brackets in each of those events, as well.

"We swept all four events," Gulf Coast coach Gary Bourgeois said. "It's a huge deal to win the regional."

The USTA/ITA National Small College Championships will be held Oct. 15-18 at Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.

Estrada didn't lose a set until the finals, when she defeated Meridian's Paige Gibson 1-6, 6-1, 6-1.

In the doubles, her and Robinson downed Gibson and Meridian teammate Shelby Zachry 8-2.

In the consolation singles bracket, Jasmine Sartin downed Meridian's Alden Hartley 8-6. Hannah Wegner and Karah Younger downed East Central's Andi and Samantha McCrimon.
