Women’s Soccer rolls past EMCC 14-0

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast celebrated Sophomore Night in grand style Friday, beating East Mississippi 14-0.

Addie Grace Barnard (Fr., Florence/Florence) had four goals and an assist, and Isabella Reynolds (Fr., Pascagoula/Pascagoula) also grabbed a hat trick with one helper.

"Tonight was an opportunity to honor our sophomores and their dedication to Gulf Coast, and we're happy to get three more points to push us toward reaching the playoffs," Gulf Coast coach Ryan Joiner said. "It was nice to get several girls on the score sheet and be able to rest some of our girls who have played a lot of minutes and have picked up some small injuries, before the final four games of the season."

Gulf Coast improved to 7-4-1, 3-3-1 in the MACCC. The Bulldogs moved back up to seventh in the women's soccer standings, the final spot that qualifies for the playoffs.

Mariana Gonzalez (So., Cartago, Costa Rica/Colegio Calasanz) and Valentina Marin (So., Bogota, Colombia/Colegio Madre Matilde) scored twice and had assists. Kyla Smith (Fr., Hurley/East Central), Morgan Pickering (So., Wiggins/Stone) and Kadie Craft (Fr., Picayune/Picayune) had goals.

Elissa Viquez (Fr., St. Rose, La./Destrehan) had four assists. Ann Elise Hester (So., Hattiesburg/Presbyterian Christian) and Dana Brooks had assists.

The Bulldogs saluted nine sophomores: Tiffany Beasley (So., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs), A'Leigh Coleman (So., Ocean Springs/Ocean Springs), Lainey Cunningham (So., Wiggins/Stone), Kayla Dobson (So., Petal/Petal), Mariana Gonzalez (So., Cartago, Costa Rica/Colegio Calasanz), Ann Elise Hester (So., Hattiesburg/Presbyterian Christian), Valentina Marin (So., Bogota, Colombia/Colegio Madre Matilde), Kylie McNair (So., Sumrall/Sumrall) and Morgan Pickering (So., Wiggins/Stone).

The Bulldogs and No. 4 Bobcats will meet at 5 p.m. Friday at Bary Thrash Field.
