GAMEDAY: Northeast vs. #9 MGCCC

GAME #1

NORTHEAST vs. #9 MGCCC

Thursday, Aug. 28, 7pm, A.L./ May Memorial Stadium

 Bulldogs open 2014 at home

While he won't be easing into his first season as head football coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Chad Huff does get the luxury of opening 2014 at the friendly confines of A.L. May Memorial Stadium.  In fact, Gulf Coast enters the fall with back-to-back home games, the first being tonight's opening battle with Northeast. In 2013 the Bulldogs traveled to Booneville and took care of the Tigers 28-14 to extend their winning streak over Northeast to eight in a row.

The Bulldogs enter the game with quarterback Jason Smith leading the way. The Auburn commitment Jason Smith (6-1, 185, McGill-Toolen High School-Mobile, AL) is considered one of the Nation's top prospects and will have plenty of targets to throw to, including sophomores Tyrone Williams, Jamaar Cole, Ishmel Morrow, and Tevaris McCormick. Sophomore running backs T.J. McCann and Rod Williams will split time with freshman Preston Dedeaux and run behind a huge offensive line featuring top prospects Martinas Rankin and Brandon Hill.

The Gulf Coast defense is also stocked with talent including Texas A&M commit Justin Evans and Auburn commit Tony Bridges in the secondary.

Northeast (4-5, 4-2) barely missed the MACJC Playoffs last season and come to Perkinston with a run-first mindset on offense, a unit that was second in the MACJC in rushing last season behind Gulf Coast. The Tigers feature sophomore running back Corbin White (621 yards, 3 TD'S in 2013).  On defense Northeast returns sophomores Jamel Dennis and Marcus Robinson, who were listed as two of the NJCAA'S top 10 returning outside linebackers.
