MACJC South Division battle becomes NJCAA top 10 showdown

To say Thursday's game between Gulf Coast and jones is big would be a major understatement. Not only are these two South Division foes vying for sole possession of first place, but this week both teams are in the NJCAA'S top 10 and both squads are undefeated. For Gulf Coast, Jones represents a perennial roadblock that's halted the team's National Championship runs in 2012 & 2013. During both those campaigns, the Bulldogs entered the game as the NJCAA'S top ranked team and left with a loss.

Gulf Coast travels to Ellisville averaging 44 points per game on offense, a unit led by quarterback Jason Smith, who's passed for 735 yards, 10 touchdowns, and no interceptions so far this season. Smith has also rushed for 269 yards and 6 TD'S. Smith's favorite target continues to be wide receivers Tyrone Williams (16 receptions, 358 yards, 7 TD'S) and Tevaris McCormick (15 receptions, 170 yards, 1TD). Injuries in the Bulldog backfield opened the door for freshman running back Chris Robinson to excel last week against Hinds. Robinson rushed 21 times for 171 yards and a touchdown and also caught a 21-yard TD pass in the 40-23 win.

The Bulldogs continue to own the MACJC'S top ranked defense, allowing only 4.5 yards per play.

Jones enters the fray with the conference's 4th ranked offense led by quarterback Kenny Coleman (938 yards passing, 5 TD'S, 1 INT in 2014), and receivers Rodregus Ducksworth (22 receptions, 351 yards, 4 TD'S), and Jervohnte Riles (24 receptions, 246 yards, 1 TD).
