Bullldogs move up to #4; Smith earns Player of the Week honors

PERKINSTON---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College moved up three spots in this week's NJCAA football poll, jumping from #7 to #4 after last week's 63-7 win over Northwest. Gulf Coast (2-0) opened 2014 ranked #9 and has been ranked in the NJCAA poll for 118 straight weeks. It's a run that began way back in 2005. The Bulldogs open MACJC South Division play this Thursday at East Central (1-1), a team Gulf Coast has defeated 11 times in a row.

Also on Tuesday Bulldog sophomore quarterback Jason Smith was named MACJC Offensive Player of the Week after a huge game against Northwest Sept. 4. Smith, an Auburn commit, rushed 11 times for 107 yards and 4 touchdowns and went 9-13 through the air for 120 yards and 2 more scores. So far in 2014, Smith has rushed for 183 yards and 18 carries and 5 TD'S and gone 18-for-26 for 282 yards and 4 TD'S.
