Bulldogs face EMCC Lions in state playoffs Saturday

Set to make their eighth consecutive football playoff appearance, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs will face the East Mississippi Lions at Scooba on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. at EMCC's Sullivan-Windham Field.  Ranked the same in the NJCAA polls as they were at last year's playoff showdown in Scooba, second ranked EMCC and fifth ranked MGCCC will battle it out in what is considered the national juco game of the week.

Under the guidance of first-year head football coach Chad Huff, MGCCC is 8-1 overall on the year and finished second in the MACJC's South Division.  The Bulldogs, who average 36.8 points per game offensively for the season, rank second nationally in limiting their opponents to a per-game average of just 8.9 points.   MGCCC last won the MACJC state football championship in 2010.

EMCC, the defending national champion, is sporting a current school-record, 21-game winning streak on the strength of five consecutive shutouts heading into postseason play. The Lions are 9-0 for the season.

This season, EMCC and MGCCC presently rate as the only two teams among the NJCAA ranks to surrender an average of less than 10 points per contest on the year, with the Bulldogs limiting their opponents to a per game average of just 8.9 points and the Lions allowing only 4.2 points per game.

Saturday's state playoff contest between MGCCC and EMCC will be available through MGCCC's weekly live video-streamed football broadcasts at mgcccbulldogs.com.
