Top-ranked Bulldogs host spring tourney
PERKINSTON — No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast got the spring golf schedule teed off the right way last week, and the Bulldogs will return to MACCC action this week on home turf.
The Gulf Coast Invitational will be played Monday and Tuesday at Grand Bear Golf Club in Saucier. Live scoring will be available at https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournaments/236488/scoring/team.
The Jack Nicklaus-designed course is bouncing back from the winter-weather snap last month.
"It's in good shape all things considered after the snow a couple weeks ago," Gulf Coast coach Brad Thornton said. "It won't play quite as fast as it has in the past. It may play a little longer than expected, but the greens are rolling well. The course is really open off the tee, so we want to take advantage of that."
All 12 MACCC golf teams will be participating, as well as Enterprise State from Alabama.
The Bulldogs have won four straight tournaments, including the two conference events they played in during the fall. There are two more MACCC tourneys, plus the GlenLakes Invitational, on the schedule before the postseason starts.
"The holes don't change," Thornton said. "Playing to our ability has been our key for all this recent success we've had. We want to keep that standard in place of how we want to play and let thec scores take care of themselves."
