Peterson, Marsh named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Brooklynn Peterson and Samuel Marsh have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Feb. 10-16.

Brooklynn Peterson, a freshman from Ocean Springs, threw a two-hitter to beat Pensacola State 9-1 in five innings. She didn't allow a hit until one out in the final inning

Samuel Marsh, a sophomore righty from Monroe, La., struck out 13 in a complete-game win over Northwest Florida State, last year's national runners-up. He allowed just four hits in a 4-3 win. 

Also nominated: 

Jabbari Barry, a sophomore guard from Lake Charles, La., averaged 21.0 points in a pair of games for Gulf Coast last week.

Valeria Callejo-Vivar, a sophomore from Madrid, Spain, won a pair of matches in an exhibition against NAIA Spring Hill in Mobile. She won her No. 2 singles match in straight sets and teamed with Danique Vermue to win No. 1 doubles 7-5.

Stanley Campbell won medalist at the Gulf Coast Invitational played at Grand Bear Golf Club. He shot even-par over 36 holes and beat teammate John Mark Mills (So., Pontotoc/Mike Bender Golf Academy) in a one-hole playoff, helping the Bulldogs win by 24 shots.

Gonzalo Cotter, a sophomore from Valencia, Spain, won both his matches in No. 12 Gulf Coast's 9-0 win over Holmes. He also won both his courts in an exhibition against NAIA Spring Hill in Mobile. He won in three sets at No. 1 singles against Spring Hill and teamed with Ryland Buford to win No. 2 doubles. The Bulldogs didn't drop a game against Holmes.

Madison Laiche, a freshman first baseman/pitcher from Luling, La., batted .474 during a 5-1 week for Gulf Coast. She had a home run, two doubles and six RBI. She went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBI in a 10-1 over Coastal Alabama-North and drove in a couple runs in an 11-8 over No. 11 (D-I) Gulf Coast State. Laiche was also 1-0 with a 2.27 ERA in three appearances.

Dekyra Mitchell, a freshman guard from Durant, averaged 21.0, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals in a 1-1 week for Gulf Coast. She had 21 points in a 77-62 overtime win over Hinds and the same number in a 65-57 loss at Itawamba.

Keilon Parnell, a sophomore outfielder from Pascagoula, batted .364 in four games and had a game-winning home run to beat Northwest Florida State, last year's national runners-up. His eighth-inning solo shot broke a 3-3 tie against the Raiders.
