Falcon, Vines named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Olivia Falcon and James Vines have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Feb. 24-March 2.

Falcon, a sophomore from St. Amant, La., went 2-0 and struck out 11 in seven innings for Gulf Coast. She pitched two extra innings of hitless relief to beat No. 16 North Iowa Area 2-1, then threw a two-hitter to beat No. 22 Kankakee 8-0 in five innings. She struck out nine without a walk in that appearance.

Vines, a freshman righty from Clinton, La., struck out 15 batters and walked only one in eight innings for the Bulldogs, who went 1-0 in his appearances. He got a win in a 3-2 victory over No. 5 Pearl River, striking out five in two innings of hitless relief. In a 4-3 victory over No. 22 Lansing, he struck out 10 in a seven-inning start. Vines had a 1.12 ERA for the week, giving up just seven hits.

Also nominated:

Isona Arnaus, a freshman from Barcelona, Spain, cleaned up on four courts in a 2-0 week for No. 12 Gulf Coast. She won a pair of straight-set matches at No. 3 singles and dropped only one game in each match at No. 2 doubles with Lauren Sullivan.

Ryland Buford, a freshman from Gulfport, won all four matches during a 2-0 week for No. 12 Gulf Coast. He dropped only three games in winning a pair of No. 4 singles matches and, paired with Gonzalo Cotter, swept at No. 2 doubles.

Kinsey Cochran, a freshman from Hurley, batted .444 in a 3-1 week for Gulf Coast. She had a triple and two RBI, scoring three times.

Dom Jackson, a sophomore outfielder/designated hitter from Gulf Breeze, Fla., slugged three home runs and drove in 10 during a 4-2 week for Gulf Coast. He had a three-run homer in the eighth to beat No. 12 Jones 5-4. Jackson also homered against Nunez and Lansing.
