Mills, Moore named Bulldogs of the Week

John Mark Mills and Hailey Moore have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Oct. 28-Nov. 3. 

Mills, a sophomore from Pontotoc, shot 6-under to win the MGCCC Fall Invitational at Windance Country Club. He led No. 1 Gulf Coast to a third straight win to finish the fall semester.

Moore, a freshman midfielder from Biloxi, opened the scoring in Gulf Coast's NJCAA Gulf South Division Tournament quarterfinal at No. 10 Pearl River. The Bulldogs went on to lose 3-1.

Also nominated:

Taurean Davis, a freshman linebacker from Quitman County, stripped the Hinds kickoff return man for a fumble that was scooped and scored by a Gulf Coast teammate to break a 14-14 tie with Hinds. He finished the game with three tackles, and No. 5 Gulf Coast won 56-14.

Kaue Kalinowski, a sophomore guard from Curitiba, Brazil, shot the lights out in a 2-0 opening week for Gulf Coast. He averaged 21.5 points, totaling 41 points in 38 minutes of play. Kalinowski made 15-of-24 field goals (62.5%) and shot 41.7 percent on 12 3-point attempts. Gulf Coast beat Coastal Alabama-South 91-76 and Santa Fe 79-77 in the Pensacola State Classic.

Ibrahim Konare, a freshman midfielder from Le Havre, France, scored the late game-winner in No. 6 Gulf Coast's 1-0 win over Copiah-Lincoln in the NJCAA Gulf South Division Tournament quarterfinal.

David Ruiz Ospina, a sophomore from Manizales, Colombia, had nine saves in a 1-0-1 weed for the Bulldogs. He stopped six shots in a 1-1 tie at No. 7 Jones, then all three shots against Copiah-Lincoln in the NJCAA Gulf South Division Tournament quarterfinal.

Al Sandifer, a sophomore defensive tackle from Greenwood, had 10 tackles, including 3.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks in No. 5 Gulf Coast's 56-14 win over Hinds.

Landon Varnes, a freshman quarterback from Brandon, completed 17-of-25 passes for 303 yards and three touchdowns in No. 5 Gulf Coast's 56-14 win over Hinds. He was 13-of-14 for 259 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.
