Varnes, Lopez named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Landon Varnes and Jennifer Lopez have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Oct. 14-20.

Varnes, a freshman quarterback from Brandon, threw for four touchdown passes to help No. 7 Gulf Coast beat Copiah-Lincoln 27-20 in Wesson. He completed 17 of 24 passes for 254 yards without an interception.

Lopez, a freshman forward from Gautier, had a hat trick in a 7-0 win over Hinds. She scored three straight goals to expand a 1-0 lead at Perk.

Also nominated:

Javen Gibson, a sophomore defensive lineman from Church Point, La., had eight tackles to lead No. 7 Gulf Coast to a 27-20 win at Copiah-Lincoln. Gibson registered both Bulldog sacks.

Victor Moerck, a sophomore forward from Vaerlose, Denmark, had the goal to beat No. 15 Hinds 1-0 at Perk.

David Ruiz Ospina, a sophomore from Manizales, Colombia, had five saves to record a 1-0 shutout of No. 15 Hinds.
