Rouse, Waters named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Karley Rouse and Eli Waters have been named Bulldogs of the Week for April 7-13.

Rouse, a sophomore from D'Iberville, shut out No. 3 Jones 4-0 with a three-hitter, piling up 14 strikeouts in 13 innings against top-10 teams. She blanked the Bobcats for the first time this season, striking out nine. In a 4-2 loss at No. 8 Northwest Mississippi, she allowed just two earned runs in a 4-2 loss.

Waters, a sophomore righty from Petal, went 1-0 with a save for Mississippi Gulf Coast, allowing one run in 8.1 innings. He got a four-out save to finish a 3-1 win at No. 5 Jones, then threw a five-hitter to beat Northwest Mississippi 12-1 in seven innings. He struck out nine Rangers while walking just one.

Also nominated:  

Isona Arnaus, a freshman from Barcelona, Spain, won four matches for No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast at the NJCAA Region 23 Championship in Ellisville. Competing at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles, she won twice each against Itawamba and Meridian.

Abby Lindsey, a freshman designated player from Decatur, Ala., batted .500 with three doubles during a 2-2 week against top-10 opponents. She had hits in all four games, including two doubles in a 4-0 win over No. 3 Jones. She had two more hits in a 6-5 loss to the Bobcats. Lindsey had a double in a 1-for-2 game during a 4-2 loss at No. 8 Northwest Mississippi and added another hit in a 6-3 win over the Rangers.

Jacob Palazzo, a sophomore outfielder from Biloxi, hit .417 during a 3-1 week for Mississippi Gulf Coast. He had base hits in all four games, including a home run against No. 5 Jones at Ellisville. He got hit by pitches twice to finish with a .500 OBP.
