McDonald, Yates named Bulldogs of the Week

PERKINSTON — Trey McDonald and Tamia Yates have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Feb. 17-23.

McDonald, a freshman righty from Moss Point, pitched seven scoreless innings of relief to help beat Southwest Mississippi 3-0. He allowed just four hits, striking out five.

Yates, a sophomore center from Crystal Springs, had a dominant and efficient double-double in Mississippi Gulf Coast's only game of the week, a 76-41 win over Meridian. She scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from the line, hauling down 15 rebounds. She also had two assists and a steal.

Larry Lee, a sophomore center from Utica, had 14 points to lead Gulf Coast to a 54-53 win over Meridian. He scored 10 of the Bulldogs' final 15 points, shooting 7-of-9 from the field.

Jordan Mitchell, a freshman from Natchez, dropped just nine games across four matches during No. 12 Gulf Coast's 2-0 week. He won his No. 3 doubles match 8-1 against No. 19 Meridian, and only dropped one game in No. 6 singles.

Jacob Palazzo, a sophomore outfielder from Biloxi, batted .364 with a double during a 2-1 week for Gulf Coast. He went 2-for-3 with a double in a 1-0 loss to Meridian in Summit.

Danique Vermue, a sophomore from 's-Heerenhoek, Netherlands, won all four matches in a 2-0 week for No. 12 Gulf Coast. She won a tough No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-7, 10-7 at No. 19 Meridian after cruising through the No. 1 doubles match. She didn't drop a game in two more wins against Northeast Mississippi.
