No. 1 Bulldogs close out regular season

PERKINSTON — No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast closes out its regular season this week in the final MACCC event. The Bulldogs are playing Monday and Tuesday in the Lou Hart Invitational in Meridian.

The golfers will be playing Northwood Country Club, which Gulf Coast coach Brad Thornton is in "fantastic shape, as usual."  He wants to see his team firing on all cylinders two weeks before the conference championship.

"We're starting to play a little bit better collectively," he said. "It was a work in progress during March, and I think the results show that, but these guys have put in a lot of effort. I'm really excited to see them get out and compete and see if we can get some momentum going to the postseason."

Live stats will be available at https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournaments/236786/scoring/team.

Stanley Campbell (So., London, England/Essex Golf College) is the top-ranked NJCAA Division II golfer in the country, per the Clippd National Collegiate Golf Rankings. Teammates John Mark Mills (So., Pontotoc/Mike Bender Golf Academy) and Peyton Russell (So., Gautier/Gautier) are third and fourth.

They're joined on the five-man team this week by Ludvig Behring (So., Sollentuna, Sweden/Osterakers Gymnasium) and Harlan Yerger (Fr., Oxford/Oxford). Grayson Lockhart (Fr., Starkville/Oak Hill Academy) and Garner Seymour (So., Biloxi/Biloxi) remain in the starting lineup mix, and they'll be playing as individuals.

The Bulldogs have won all four MACCC events they've played in, but No. 7 Meridian forced a playoff last time out at the Chris Clark Invitational.

"The main goal is to be ready come April," Thornton said. "You want to play your best golf in late April and then into May, and I think that's the way we're trending."
