Bulldogs score 3 off corner kicks in win

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast rallied to score all its goals in the second half and beat East Central 3-1 on Sunday.

Playing on the artificial turf at A.L. May Memorial Stadium, the Bulldogs came back from 1-0 down at the break. Even with the outburst on the scoreboard, they still haven't unlocked their offense.

"We still have the same issues," Gulf Coast coach Chris Handy said. "We're just not playing with enough force in the final third. We worked on set-pieces so we can score on them, where we failed in previous games, but we're still not playing well enough in the final third."

All the goals came off corner kicks. Chad Hudson (So., Gulfport/St. Patrick) scored on one by Ashton Taylor (Fr., Olive Branch/Center Hill), and Abdul Omar (Fr., Madison/Germantown) set up the next two.

Adam Holland (Fr., Moss Point/Resurrection) scored the first, and James Redmond (So., Bremen, Germany/Oberschule Roter Sand) got the second.

Gulf Coast (3-2) will try to get its first MACCC South win Tuesday during a trip to Copiah-Lincoln. The Bulldogs kick off at 4:30 p.m. in Wesson.

"We're creating a lot of opportunities, but we're just not putting them away," Handy said. "It could have easily been a repeat of the Meridian game. Set pieces count just like anything else, but we'd like to score through the run of play. We've got to fix to accomplish our goals."
