PERKINSTON — No. 6 Mississippi Gulf Coast lost to archrival Pearl River in the MACCC/Region 23 Tournament semifinals Saturday, and now the waiting game begins.

The Bulldogs (11-3) lost 3-2 to the No. 12 Wildcats, and they'll have to hope for an at-large bid in the NJCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship. It will be a long wait, with the field scheduled to be announced Thursday.

The winner of the Pearl River-Jones game Sunday at 3 p.m. will earn an automatic berth in the national championship tournament.

Gulf Coast led twice in the first half. Anderson Micolta (Fr., James Cardinal McGuigan Catholic High School/Toronto Ontario) scored in the fourth minute after a pass from Ashton Taylor (Fr., Olive Branch/Center Hill).

PRCC converted a penalty eight minutes later, but Taylor scored a goal of his own in the 15th minute for a 2-1 lead.

That stood up until a long-range shot took a bad hop to beat Gulf Coast keeper Isaiah Gore (So., Laurel/Laurel) 37 seconds before halftime. Pearl River would go in front six minutes into the second half on a shot from the top of the box after a corner.
