Bulldogs edge Coyotes 5-4 to start season

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast defeated a roster full of international players Monday to get its 2025 men's tennis season started on the right serve.

The Bulldogs beat Coastal Alabama-South 5-4 at the MGCCC Tennis Complex. 

Gulf Coast won two of the doubles courts to take and early lead. Vicente Faria (So., Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria de Fonseca Benevides) and Moritz Stroebel (Fr., Metzingen, Germany/Theodor-Heuss-Schule Reutlingen) on at No. 1, and Gonzalo Cotter (So., Valencia, Spain/IVLA) and Ryland Buford (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) at No. 2, both 8-2.

Cotter, Faria and Stroebel won their singles matches in straight sets to clinch the match. Buford took the No. 4 court to a third-set tiebreaker.

Gulf Coast will travel to Vicksburg on Tuesday to play an exhibition match against NCAA Division I Alcorn State. First serves are set for 1 p.m.
