No. 12 Men’s Tennis sweeps NEMCC

PERKINSTON — The No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast Men's Tennis team wasted no time getting things rolling Friday on the way to a 9-0 sweep of Northeast Mississippi.

"We played really well from top to bottom," Bulldogs coach Sam Blackburn. "Doubles started really well, and 1 doubles got off the court really fast. That set the tone for everybody. Everybody played well in singles."

Gulf Coast improved to 4-0 overall and stayed undefeated after three MACCC matches, tied for first.

Vicente Faria (So., Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria de Fonseca Benevides) and Moritz Stroebel (Fr., Metzingen, Germany/Theodor-Heuss-Schule Reutlingen) won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. He also won his No. 2 singles court easily.

Ryland Buford (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) didn't drop a game in his No. 4 singles match, and Easton van Norden (Fr., Long Beach/Long Beach) dropped only one game at No. 6.

Gulf Coast's Sunday exhibition against Millsaps has moved up to 9 a.m. to try to beat forecasted rain.
