Shorthanded No. 13 Bulldogs lose

PERKINSTON — Shorthanded No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast lost its final regular-season match Monday, a tight 5-4 defeat to No. 15 Coastal Alabama-South.

The Bulldogs were playing without No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles player Vicente Faria (So., Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria de Fonseca Benevides), who was held out of play because of injury.

Gonzalo Cotter (So., Valencia, Spain/IVLA) and Moritz Stroebel (Fr., Metzingen, Germany/Theodor-Heuss-Schule Reutlingen) picked up the Bulldogs' only doubles point, winning 8-6.

Cotter and Strobel also won their singles matches, with Ryland Buford (Fr., Gulfport/Gulfport) winning No. 3 singles.

Gulf Coast (10-2) had beaten the Coyotes 5-4 earlier in the season. The Bulldogs will open postseason play April 24 in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament against East Central. The tourney will be played in Ellisville.
