Lady Bulldogs come back to beat Delgado

Mississippi Gulf Coast reversed some of its early season tendencies playing Delgado on Wednesday night in New Orleans.

The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start and played much better in the second half, winning 42-35 to improve to 6-2.

"Late in the game we were more aggressive on the backboard and handled their pressure well," Mississippi Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "We handled their press late and hit our free throws late."

Delgado falls to 3-9.

Markeisha Watson led Gulf Coast with 22 points and she added six rebounds. Jasmine Nettles had nine rebounds to lead the Lady Bulldogs.

Delgado jumped out to an 11-3 lead after the first quarter, with Gulf Coast trimming its deficit to three at halftime. The score was tied at 32 after three quarters before Gulf Coast closed out the game with a 10-3 fourth quarter.

"I thought Kailin Young gave us a spark off the bench with eight rebounds," Conner said. "She was 2-for-2 from the floor, but they were big buckets late that changed momentum."

She and Hayley Pichon played key roles in the back of the press. Pichon had four steals and added five rebounds.

"Those little things made a big difference," Conner said.

The Lady Bulldogs close out their pre-Christmas schedule Saturday at LSU-Eunice. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
