Lady Bulldogs fall to Co-Lin
PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast saw its season end Thursday night, scrapping to the end of a 63-53 loss to Copiah-Lincoln.
The Lady Bulldogs were throwing their bodies around in the closing minutes, but it wasn't enough to grab a winning record on the season. They finish 11-12, 3-11 in the MACJC South.
"We missed a bunch of layups," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "We missed a bunch of free throws. We threw the ball away a bunch."
Co-Lin improves to 19-3, 11-3, but faced a tougher battle on the Lady Bulldogs' Sophomore Night than the first game in Wesson. Gulf Coast lost that one by 25.
Courtney White led Gulf Coast with 12 points. Markeisha Watson added 11 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Hayley Pichon had 10 rebounds, and freshman Whitney Williams had five points, an assist and a steal.
"I thought Whitney played mighty good," said Conner.
It was the last game for eight Gulf Coast sophomores: White, Watson, Pichon, Kamisha Tarvin, Ka'Nosha Fairley, Raven Thompson and Tiana Dampeer. Kailin Young sat out her last game with an injury suffered at Hinds on Tuesday.
"We're gonna hit that recruiting trail hard and improve ourselves for the season next year," Conner said. "I'm thankful for the sophomores. We'll do everything we can to help stay a part of their lives and help them in their futures."
