MGCCC improves to 9-2 with home win
PERKINSTON – The first time Mississippi Gulf Coast played LSU-Eunice this season, the Lady Bulldogs won on the road thanks to a blizzard of 3-point shots.
Saturday at the Weathers/Wentzell Center, Gulf Coast won again, but this time without making a single 3. The Lady Bulldogs won 63-54, with Kailin Young and Courtney White scoring 15 each.
The first meeting saw Gulf Coast win 98-57, the Lady Bulldogs hitting 14 of 19 of their 3-pointers.
"We didn't execute," Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner said. "When you beat somebody 40 on the road and you get them here at the house, we weren't ready. That's youth."
Mar Keisha Watson added 12 points for Gulf Coast, which improves to 9-2.
LSU-Eunice's Katie Lemieux had 21 points, with Abby Jolie adding 20 thanks to six 3-pointers. The Lady Bengals fall to 3-14.
"I'm pleased with the win because we're 9-2," Conner said. "I don't know the last time the women's team here was 9-2. I just wished we'd played a little better."
Gulf Coast never trailed, leading by nine at halftime on the way to a 17-point lead early in the fourth quarter. The Lady Bengals trimmed the lead back to six points, but the Lady Bulldogs' depth was the difference.
"I was glad the second group got to finish them out," Conner said. "Now, we've got to get ready for East Central and they're going to press us for 40 minutes and play 15 people."
Gulf Coast returns to MACJC action Monday, visiting East Central. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. They Lady Bulldogs' next home game is Thursday when Southwest visits.
