Lady Bulldogs gearing up for Hinds

PERKINSTON – Mississippi Gulf Coast coach Jason Conner sees a lot of zone defense from the Lady Bulldogs' next opponent, Hinds.

On the offensive end, it's a different challenge.

"What I'm seeing on film is a lot of dribble-drive, which means there can long shots and balls bouncing all over the place," he said. "Are we gonna block out? Can we guard them or are we gonna end up in foul trouble?"

Conner's club lost 60-57 at Pearl River on Tuesday and faces a quick turnaround Thursday to try to snap a three-game losing streak. The Lady Bulldogs are 9-5 overall and 1-4 in the MACJC South.

Hinds (6-8) is still looking for its first division win. Makhala Jackson leads the team at 10.5 points per game.

Conner things his team is shooting better but said the post players need to make more of their easy chances. He also wants to the Lady Bulldogs to corral the Hinds misses and generate some easy offense on the break.

"I thought our attitudes were good last night (in Poplarville)," he said Wednesday. "I was positive with our kids because there were a couple of breaks that went against us late."

Gulf Coast tips off at 5:30 p.m. at the Weathers/Wentzell Center.
