Late goals doom Bulldogs

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast twice battled back from deficits, but the third deficit was too much to overcome in a 5-3 loss Friday night to Southwest at Bary Thrash Field.

The Bulldogs (1-5, 0-3 MACJC South) got goals from Tylor Davis (So., Gulfport/West Harrison) and Matt Roberts (Fr., Portsmouth England/Portsmouth Grammar School) to erase an early 2-0 deficit. Roberts' first goal came in the 25th minute.

Gulf Coast couldn't get to halftime tied, though. Patrick Larsen scored his second for the Bears (5-0, 2-0) 71 seconds before the break to put the Bulldogs in the hole again.

Roberts again knotted the score in the 47th minute, deflecting a shot by C.J. Smith (So., Brampton Ontario/David Suzuki Secondary School). Roberts also had an assist on Davis' opener.

Southwest scored off a corner with 29 minutes left and got an insurance goal in the 84th minute to clinch it.

Gulf Coast returns to action Sunday with a trip to Meridian. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
