MGCCC shuts out Meridian

Mississippi Gulf Coast picked up its first MACJC South win of the season Sunday when the Bulldogs beat Meridian 4-0.

 

It was Gulf Coast's first shutout of the season.

 

The Bulldogs (2-5, 1-3 South) got a goal and assist from Matt Roberts (Fr., Portsmouth England/Portsmouth Grammar School). He opened the scoring in the 17th minute off an assist from Griffin Bush (Fr., Pearl/Pearl).

 

Tylor Davis (So., Gulfport/West Harrison) set up C.J. Smith (So., Brampton Ontario/David Suzuki Secondary School) for a 2-0 lead 16 minutes later, and Noah Spear (Fr., Brookhaven/Brookhaven) scored before halftime with help from Roberts.

 

Peyton Younger scored 12 minutes into the second half off a corner by Oscar Loya Loya (So., Horn Lake/Horn Lake).

 

Meridian is now 1-7, 0-4.

 

Gulf Coast returns to action Tuesday with a non-division game at Holmes. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
