No. 6 Bulldogs ease to 6-2 win

No. 6 Mississippi Gulf Coast tripled East Mississippi 6-2 on Friday night in Scooba to win its third straight men's soccer game. Kade Smith led the Bulldogs with a hat trick.

The Bulldogs (11-2-3, 7-1-2 MACCC) are 4-0-1 in their last five games. They could win a share of the conference title by beating Jones in Ellisville on Tuesday, and they remain alive for a chance to host the NJCAA Gulf District Tournament.

Smith (So., London, England/Whitmore) scored two of his goals before halftime, helping Gulf Coast cruise to a 5-0 lead at the break. Victor Moerck (So., Vaerlose, Denmark/Lyngby Handelsgymnasium) also had two first-half goals, and Vincenzo Jeanfreau (Fr., Saucier/Pass Christian) notched the other.

Smith's goal seven minutes into the second half made it 6-0, and EMCC (0-16, 0-10) got two goals in the final 30 minutes.

The Bulldogs are tied for second in the conference with Pearl River, three points behind Jones. The top seven teams in the conference advance to the NJCAA Gulf South District Tournament. The second- through fourth-seeds host quarterfinals, with the MACCC champion getting a bye into the semifinals.
