ELLISVILLE — No. 6 Mississippi Gulf Coast needed a win here Tuesday night to earn a share of the MACCC championship, and in another memorable game against No. 7 Jones, fell just short in a 1-1 tie.
Jones scored in the 49th minute, but Victor Moerck (So., Vaerlose, Denmark/Lyngby Handelsgymnasium) equalized in the 75th minute. The Bulldogs pushed hard in the game's final minutes but couldn't coax a winner.
Gulf Coast (11-2-4, 7-1-3 MACCC) will be the No. 2 seed in the NJCAA Gulf District Tournament. The Bulldogs will host Copiah-Lincoln in the quarterfinals Saturday at Bary Thrash Field. Start time will be announced later in the week.
Jones finishes the regular season 10-2-3, 8-0-3.
Co-Lin handed Gulf Coast one of its ties in Wesson back in September.
