
No. 12 Women’s Tennis sweeps at home
PERKINSTON — No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast cruised to a 9-0 win over Southwest Mississippi on Friday at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.
The Bears had only four healthy players, to the Bulldogs picked up three points on defaults.
Gulf Coast improved to 8-1 overall, 7-1 in MACCC play.
Danique Vermue (So., 's-Heerenhoek, Netherlands/Scheldemon College) and Valeria Callejo-Vivar (So., Madrid, Spain/I.E.S. Ortega y Gasset) dropped only one game at No. 1 doubles, and Isona Arnaus (Fr., Barcelona, Spain/Centre Lopez Vicuna) and Lauren Sullivan (So., Laurel/Laurel Christian) won all eight games at No. 2.
Vermue and Callejo-Vivar won their Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches easily, and Dallas Tanner (So., Hattiesburg/Oak Grove) and Karla Bethea (So., Edwards/Homeschool) bumped up to Nos. 3 and 4, where they also won in straight sets.
The Bulldogs will be off next week for spring break and will return to action April 1 when East Central visits Perk.
