Avery named MGCCC Student-Athlete of the Week

PERKINSTON — Terrion Avery has been named MGCCC Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 3-9.

Avery, a sophomore running back from Stone High, scored three times in Gulf Coast's soggy 46-21 win at Coahoma. He ran 15 times for 91 yards, averaging 6.1 yards per carry.

Also nominated:

R'Tarriun Johnson, a sophomore safety from Stone High, had an interception and team-high eight total tackles at Coahoma. He also had one pass breakup.

Mason Hunt, a sophomore kicker/punter from Stone High, was superb in less-than-ideal conditions at Coahoma. Playing more than half the game in a driving rainstorm, he averaged 43.9 yards on eight punts and made all six extra-point attempts. Hunt and the punt unit were more than 18 yards better per punt than the Tigers.
