Hopson, Wilkinson named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Mya Hopson and Brice Wilkinson have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for April 1-7. 

Hopson, a sophomore first baseman from Madison Central, went 5-for-7 as No. 6 Gulf Coast split its two games at East Central. She went 3-for-4 with a double in a 6-4 win in the opener, then went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run in a 4-3 loss.

Wilkinson, a sophomore golfer from Madison Central, ran away from the field in the second round of the final MACJC event of the regular season. He shot 65 to finish the tournament at 7-under, leading No. 2 Gulf Coast to its fifth win in as many conference events. 

Also nominated:

Bryley Rodriguez, a sophomore from Cankton, La., pitched 3.2 innings of hitless relief appearing in both ends of a doubleheader for No. 6 Mississippi Gulf Coast, picking up a save. She got the save with 2.2 innings of work in a 6-4 win, striking out two. Rodriguez pitched the final inning in a 4-3 loss in Game 2. 

Anthony Schloegel, a freshman from St. Patrick, won both of his matches without dropping a single game. He won his No. 6 singles matches 6-0, 6-0 against Jones and Southwest.
