Sutton, Vos named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Amber Sutton and Austin Vos have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Feb. 11-17.

 

Sutton, a freshman guard from Madison Central, averaged 11.5 points while coming off the bench and igniting Gulf Coast to a 2-0 week with 75.0 percent shooting from behind the arc. She had 12 points in a 63-35 win at Meridian, then made all three of her 3-point attempts in the Lady Bulldogs' third-quarter rally on the way to a 68-49 win at Pearl River.

 

Austin Vos, a freshman from Perth, Australia, mounted an epic comeback in Gulf Coast's 6-3 win over Hinds. Down a set and 5-2 in the second, he erased a match point against and won the next five games. He was up 9-5 in the tiebreaker third set when the match was defaulted to him.

 

Also nominated:

 

Keevon Oney, a sophomore guard from Gulfport, averaged 19.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in a pair of wins that vaulted Gulf Coast into first place in the MACJC South. He had 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field in a 61-51 overtime win at Meridian. In a 65-62 win at No. 12 Pearl River, he scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He had three steals in each game and shot 81.8 percent from the free throw line.

 

Jake Crosson, a freshman from New Hope, sank a crucial putt on the 36th hole to get Gulf Coast to a Coastal Alabama Invitational playoff, which the Bulldogs won on the second extra hole against Wallace State. Crosson finished tied for second and made the All-Tournament Team.

 

Margarita Lopareva, a sophomore from Moscow, Russia, won both her matches in a 6-3 loss to Hinds.

 

Tanner Estill, a sophomore left fielder from Petal, batted .500 and slugged 1.000 in a pair of Mississippi Gulf Coast losses to Northwest Florida State. In a 10-9 loss, he went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double. In a 7-3 loss, he went 1-for-4.
