Oney, Thigpen named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Keevon Oney and Shelli Thigpen have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Nov. 5-11.

Oney, a sophomore guard from Gulfport, averaged 18 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2 steals while shooting 76.5 percent in a pair of Mississippi Gulf Coast road victories. His big night came in a 94-62 win over Baton Rouge where he shot 8-for-9 from the field, including 3-for-3 from 3,  to score 24 points. In an 83-62 win over Bishop State, he had 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Thigpen, a sophomore guard from Wylie, Texas, averaged 13.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in three Mississippi Gulf Coast games last week. She had 15 points and 5 rebounds in a 61-59 win at Northwest. She also had 15 points and 7 rebounds in a loss to Delta and 11 points and 7 rebounds in a loss to Bishop State.
