Cade, Neely named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Kristen Cade and Dillyn Nelly have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Jan. 28-Feb. 3.

 

Kristen Cade, a freshman from Harrison Central, was a perfect 2-0 for Mississippi Gulf Coast including throwing a two-hitter in the season opener. She blanked Marion Military 15-0 in five innings, striking out 10. The next day, she beat MMI 3-2 while scattering eight hits and striking out seven.

 

Dillyn Neely, a freshman guard from Biloxi made 10-of-13 3-pointers in a 36-point outburst to lead Mississippi Gulf Coast to an 82-72 victory over Hinds on the way to a 2-0 week. The Bulldogs also defeated East Central 72-65.

Kayla Simmons, a freshman from Brandon, averaged 16.0 points while shooting 73.3 percent from the field during a 1-1 week for the Lady Bulldogs. She had 14 points and seven rebounds in a 60-48 win over Hinds, and 18 points in a 76-72 loss at East Central.

 

Austin Vos, a sophomore from Perth, Australia, won all four of his matches during a perfect week for the Bulldogs tennis team. He only dropped five games with doubles partner Cole Wagner, and just one in straight-sets wins at No. 1 singles.

 

Betty Mingo, a sophomore third baseman from Choctaw Central, batted .455 and drove in three runs during a 2-2 opening weekend for Gulf Coast. She went 2-for-3 in the season-opening 15-0 win, driving in three runs and hitting a double.
