Howard, Hopkins named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Azaria Howard and Jon Hopkins have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Oct. 29-Nov. 4.

Howard, a sophomore forward from Richland, had a double-double in Mississippi Gulf Coast's 65-43 win over Coastal Alabama. She had 27 points on 75 percent shooting from the field and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Hopkins, a freshman from Bishop's Strotford, England, won medalist honors at the MGCCC Fall Invitational after a two-hole playoff. He finished 2-under in the 36-hole event.

Also nominated:

Tafari Simms, a freshman forward from Hamilton, Ontario, had 18 points off the bench on 72.7 percent shooting from the field in Mississippi Gulf Coast's 76-58 win over William Carey. He also grabbed six rebounds and made both free throws.
