Hall, Thigpen named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Dawson Hall and Shelli Thigpen have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Feb. 4-10.

 

Hall, a freshman from East Central, got the win for No. 14 Gulf Coast in a 9-8 decision against No. 5 Jefferson College (Division I) with six strong innings. He struck out six while walking just one in his collegiate debut.

 

Thigpen, a sophomore guard from Wylie, Texas, had a double-double in The Lady Bulldogs' win over Southwest averaged 11.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two victories. She had 13 points and 3 rebounds in a 66-57 win over Copiah-Lincoln, the squad's first over the Lady Wolves since 2013, and had 10 points and 12 rebounds in a 65-40 win over the Lady Bears.

Willie Logan, a sophomore guard from Northwest Rankin, had 13 points in both Gulf Coast wins this week while shooting 56.3 percent from the field. He had three rebounds in a 75-67 win over Copiah-Lincoln, and seven in a 68-60 win over Southwest. He made 3-of-4 3-pointers on the week and all five free throws.

 

Megan Bankston, a sophomore from Gulfport, won both her matches against Coastal Alabama. She teamed with Margarita Lopareva to win No. 1 doubles 8-4, then won her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-2.

 

Patrick Roth, a freshman from Pascagoula, won both his matches in the Bulldogs' 9-0 win at Coastal Alabama. He teamed with Evan Chubb to in their No. 2 doubles match 8-2, then didn't drop a game in his No. 3 singles match.

 

Hannah Hembree, a sophomore catcher from Pascagoula, batted .500 as Mississippi Gulf Coast split a pair of games at the Wildcat Invitational. Her two-run single gave the Lady Bulldogs the lead in a 3-2 win over Marion Military. She has a hit in all six games this year and is tied for the team lead with 5 RBI.

 

Bryley Rodriguez, a freshman from Cankton, La., entered the Marion Military game in the fifth inning with a runner in scoring position and got three strikeouts to end the threat. Gulf Coast rallied to win 3-2, earning her the win.

 

Fisher Ray, a sophomore from George County, went 2-for-5 in No. 14 Gulf Coast's 9-8 win over No. 5 Jefferson College (D-1) and drove in three runs. He had an RBI double in the third and drove in two vital insurance runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to make it 9-8.
