Fudge wins ITA UTR Player of the Week

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Clay Fudge put together another dominant week for the men's tennis team, and he's received national recognition for it.

Fudge, a freshman from Madison, was named ITA UTR NJCAA Men's Player of the Week after going 6-0 and helping the Bulldogs win the MACCC and Region 23 titles.

He opened the week by winning twice in the final regular-season match against Jones to clinch a perfect MACCC record.

In the Region 23 Tournament at Ellisville, he swept his matches against Copiah-Lincoln before repeating against Jones. His singles win clinched the Bulldogs' first region championship since 2013.

Fudge hasn't lost a singles or doubles match in Mississippi this season, which earned him All-MACCC honors.

He and the Gulf Coast tennis team head to Plano, Texas, next month for the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis Tournament.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association is the governing body for tennis, and UTR is the Universal Tennis Rating, a way skill levels can be measured for all players.
